Penick

Penick Funeral Home

PENICK FUNERAL HOME, McKENZIE, TENNESSEE

In 1926, Elijah Charles (Charlie) and Joseph Newton (Joe) Penick purchased the Scates Undertaking Co. and the name was changed to Penick Bros. Funeral Directors. A few years later, Charles became sole owner and the name was changed to Penick Funeral Home. In 1936 it was moved from downtown McKenzie to Magnolia Street. In 1945, Jack Brummitt purchased the business, retained its location, and changed the name to Brummitt Funeral Home, as it remains today.

The Penick Funeral Home books, which are housed at the Brummitt Funeral Home, contain 1,238 burials from 1926 through 1945.
