COZART, WALTER
[D. 31 Mar 1944-Penick Funeral Home]
Walter Cozart Dies
In Veterans
Hospital Friday
Popular and Prosperous
Farmer
"In many respects he was as
fine a man as Carroll County
ever produced." That was re
mark made by a man who knew
both the man and the county,
and there are many who will
readily endorse it. In spite of his
outstanding faults which he was
quick to acknowledge, he had
many equally outstanding virtues that endeared him to many
and enabled him to wield a powerful influence even beyond the
borders of his home county. His
life was an open book for he was
anything but hypocritical. He
was always ready to help one in
trouble or in need, and his help
was never miserly given. He
was friendly, affable, truthful
and honest, and because of these
virtues had built up a large
circle of friends and admirers.
"In the long last," thoroughly
convinced of the error of his
way, he had the will-power to
break with evil, make full confession of his mistakes, and take
a bold stand for Christ and the
Church. That is not an easy
thing to do when one becomes
rather set in evil habits. It takes
a man in the truest sense of the
word to do that.
Walter had been in bad health
for sometime. He had the best
medical advice that could be had;
he had the best of attention and
nursing, the sympathy and prayers of many friends, but his days
work was done, the final summons came, he "set his house in
order" and waved back to his
friends "All’s well, goodbye; I
am not afraid."
Walter died in the Veteran’s
Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee,
Friday, March 31, 1944, at 1:00
a.m. Funeral services were held
at his late residence Sunday afternoon. By request of some
years standing Rev. Geo. L.
Johnson preached the sermon
and Mrs. Price McLean sang two
solos accompanied at the piano
by Mrs. Bernard Kemp. He was
buried with military honors by
his comrades of the McKenzie
Post of the American Legion.
Walter is survived by a number of nephews and nieces,
among them are Ranzo and Lucian Butler of McKenzie, Dr.
Arden Butler of East Tennessee,
Mrs. Ione Key of Norfolk, Virginia, Hugh Cozart of McKenzie,
Tommie Cozart of Texas, Mrs.
Edna Hobbs of Florida, Grady
Mace, Earl and Miss Mary Snead
of McKenzie, also Mrs. Dolphene
Penny, and many friends.
