Travis Killed
Another Tri-Communities citizen has made the supreme sacrifice for his country, and other
hearts are saddened because he
is among those who will not return when the Axis armies are
crushed.
This loyal and true citizen is
Technical Sergeant Leon W. Travis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Turney
Travis, of the Hinkledale community. A message from the War
Department early this week advised Mr. and Mrs. Travis that
their son had been killed in action in Germany on November 26.
Sergeant Travis had been in
service three years last October,
and overseas for a year. He was
with the First (General Hodges’)
Army. Wounded in the arm on
July 9, Sergeant Travis was back
in action on July 26. He was a
member of Co. G, 121st Infantry,
which is a part of the Eighth Division.
Prior to entering the armed
service, Sergeant Travis was a
farmer and also worked at the
Milan Ordnance Plant at Milan.
He was 24 years of age.
Besides his parents, this brave
hero leaves two brothers, J. C.
Travis, who is in the Army and
stationed at Camp Pickett, Va.,
and Prentiss Travis, who was
only recently given a medical discharge from the Army.
The bereaved family and close
friends have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community
in this hour of extreme sorrow.
