Ben L. Utley Dead
A very sad death occurred in
Westport Christmas day. Ben L.
Utley, a merchant of that town,
died after an illness of nearly two
weeks from typhoid fever. Mr.
Utley waited on his brother, A.
E. Utley, who died with the same
disease just three weeks before,
and it is believed caught the disease from him, as he was effected
in the same way his brother was.
He had the very best of attention
but the ravages of the malady
could not be said.
Mr. Utley was in the mercantile business and was doing nicely.
He was a young man of splendid
character, pleasing and agreeable
in disposition and had made many
friends. He had been married
about eight years and is survived
by his wife and two children.
His father and mother, Mr. and
Mrs. V. T. Utley, two brothers
and a sister also survive him. He
was about 26 years old, a member
of the Christian church and a
young man held in high esteem.
The funeral services were held
at the college hall in Clarksburg,
December 26, the sermon being
preached by Eld. Joe Netherland
in the presence of a large crowd
of friends. The burial followed
at the Blair graveyard. The
bereaved have the sympathy of a
host of friends.
